Terms of sale and refunds
Last updated 23 October 2026
In short: we check there’s Japanese data for your car before we let you pay. You get the report on screen straight away. If our supplier can’t supply the Japanese record after you’ve paid, we refund you in full automatically. If something in the report is wrong, email us and we’ll put it right or refund you.
Who we are
JDM History runs jdmhistory.co.uk. It is run by Dean, its founder. JDM History is pre-launch and the company is being set up. You can reach us at [email protected]; we reply within one working day.
What you’re buying
A full report is a one-off digital report about one vehicle, identified by its UK registration and chassis number. On top of the free check, it adds:
- Japanese auction history for the chassis: auction date, grade, mileage and inspector’s notes, translated.
- The Japanese mileage joined to the UK MOT history, with the point where the car crossed to the UK checked.
- Outstanding finance, stolen and insurance write-off records, keeper count, plate changes and the chassis number on the UK record.
The data comes from the DVLA, the DVSA, licensed data suppliers in Japan and the UK, and recall filings published by Japan’s transport ministry. Every finding in the report shows the records behind it.
Before you pay
When you run a free check with a chassis number, we ask our Japanese data supplier whether it holds a record for that chassis. We only offer the full report when it does. If it doesn’t, we tell you and don’t sell you a report.
Price and payment
The price is shown on the pay button and is the total you pay. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. The charge appears on your statement as JDM History.
Delivery
The report appears on screen as soon as your payment goes through, normally within a minute, at a private link. Keep that link: it’s how you get back to your report. Anyone you share it with can see the report.
Automatic refunds
We refund the full price automatically, with no need to ask, if after you’ve paid:
- our Japanese data supplier can’t supply the record for your chassis, or has nothing after all; or
- we can’t build your report for any other reason after a few attempts.
The report page tells you when this happens. The money goes back to the card you paid with and usually shows within 5 to 10 working days.
Your right to cancel
A report is digital content supplied straight away. Before paying, you ask us to supply it immediately and acknowledge that once it has been supplied you lose the usual 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If we can’t supply it, you are refunded anyway, as above.
If something is wrong
Your report must match its description, be of satisfactory quality and be fit for purpose. If it isn’t (for example it’s for the wrong car, or a section we said was included is missing), email [email protected] with your order reference within 30 days and we will fix it or refund you. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Please talk to us before disputing a payment with your bank. We answer within one working day and refund straight away where we got it wrong. A bank dispute takes weeks to settle.
What a report can and can’t tell you
A report tells you what the records we can get say about the car. Records can be missing, late or wrong, and a report isn’t an inspection: always look at the car, and have it inspected if you can. Each report lists what we couldn’t check. Where a record conflicts with another, we show both and explain the difference rather than picking one.
We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable, or for business losses: reports are for private buyers deciding whether to buy a car. Nothing here limits our liability where the law says it can’t be limited.
Using the report
The report is for you, to help decide about this vehicle. You can share it with the seller or someone advising you. Please don’t resell it or publish it: our data suppliers’ licences don’t allow that.
Your data and the law
How we handle your details is in our privacy notice. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring a claim in the courts of the part of the UK where you live.
