Toyota Hiace H200 and Regius Ace import check
KDH200 is the factory model code for the Toyota Hiace H200, also sold in Japan as the Regius Ace, built for the Japanese market from 2004 to 2026. Other versions carry KDH201, KDH205, KDH206, GDH201, TRH200, TRH214 and TRH219. Every genuine car has a chassis (frame) number that starts with its code, such as KDH200-. That number is the one thing that links its Japanese history to its UK records.

Reading the KDH200 chassis code
- KDH is a KD diesel (2.5 2KD or 3.0 1KD), GDH the 2.8 1GD diesel, and TRH a TR petrol (2.0 1TR or 2.7 2TR).
- The numbers after the letters separate body lengths, roof heights and drive. Toyota uses many of them, so check the engine and body against the V5C.
- Toyota’s model type adds a body letter that the chassis number leaves out: the auction sheet may say CBF-TRH200V, but the chassis number reads TRH200-0123456.

Have a chassis number? The chassis decoder reads it for you.
Is it a genuine KDH200?
The H200 Hiace has stayed in production in Japan since 2004, so the chassis code alone doesn’t date it. Use the first-registration date in Japan and the build date on the auction sheet.
Known problems to check on a KDH200
- KD diesel injector seal failure and injector wear: listen for chuffing at idle and ask for injector records
- Rust on the sills, rear arches, sliding-door runner and floor
- Camper conversions: ask for the conversion paperwork, a gas safety certificate and an electrical check, and see whether the V5C body type has been changed
- Later diesels have a particulate filter that needs regular long runs
These are common issues for the model, not facts about any particular car. Ask the seller about each one.
Before you buy
- Check the V5C body type (panel van, minibus or motor caravan) matches the vehicle, because it changes tax and insurance
- Look under the floor mats and behind the wheel arch liners for rust
The KDH200 on a Japanese auction sheet
- The sheet names the van ハイエース (Hiace) or レジアスエース (Regius Ace).
- Ex-work vans often carry many small marks; a grade 3 or 3.5 is normal and not a reason to walk away on its own.
Most imports were bought at a Japanese auction, and the inspector’s sheet records the grade, mileage and every mark on the body. Ask the seller for it, then run it through our auction sheet translator to read it in English and check the chassis number and mileage against the UK record.
Recalls in Japan for the KDH200 family
Japan publishes every recall with the chassis numbers it covers. Run a recall check with the car’s chassis number to see whether any apply to it.

Kilometres, miles and the first UK MOT
A KDH200 sold new in Japan has a speedometer in kilometres. When it is imported, the speedometer is either converted to miles or left in km, and the first UK MOT should record whichever the dial shows. Mistakes here are common, and they’re where mileage problems hide.
We put the Japanese auction mileage and every UK MOT reading on one timeline and check the crossing: whether the readings agree after converting, whether the km figure was written down as miles, and whether the first UK reading is lower than the car had already done in Japan. See an illustrative example.
What we haven’t confirmed yet
We only state what we’re confident of. We haven’t yet checked these points about the Toyota Hiace H200 and Regius Ace against a second source, so treat them with care:
- The engine and body for each Hiace chassis code beyond the first three letters, so we list every H200 engine for each code.

Questions
What is the chassis code for the Toyota Hiace H200?
KDH200, with KDH201, KDH205, KDH206, GDH201, TRH200, TRH214 and TRH219 for other engines or drive layouts. A Japanese-market Toyota Hiace H200 has a frame number that starts with its code, then a hyphen and a serial number. You’ll find it on the V5C and on a plate in the engine bay.
Which years was the KDH200 built?
From 2004 to 2026, with the 2KD-FTV (2494 cc turbo diesel) or 1KD-FTV (2982 cc turbo diesel) or 1GD-FTV (2754 cc turbo diesel) or 1TR-FE (1998 cc naturally aspirated petrol) or 2TR-FE (2693 cc naturally aspirated petrol) engines and RWD or 4WD layout.
What should I check when buying a KDH200?
KD diesel injector seal failure and injector wear: listen for chuffing at idle and ask for injector records. Rust on the sills, rear arches, sliding-door runner and floor. Camper conversions: ask for the conversion paperwork, a gas safety certificate and an electrical check, and see whether the V5C body type has been changed. Later diesels have a particulate filter that needs regular long runs. Check the V5C body type (panel van, minibus or motor caravan) matches the vehicle, because it changes tax and insurance. Look under the floor mats and behind the wheel arch liners for rust. Also check that the Japanese auction mileage lines up with the first UK MOT, because km and miles are easily mixed up.
Is the Regius Ace the same as the Toyota Hiace H200?
Yes, under the skin. Japanese makers sold some models under more than one name through different dealer chains. They share chassis codes, so the code can’t tell them apart: the model name on the auction sheet and the badges can.
