Other Mazda models outside our model library used NU too.

Has a NU car been resprayed?

  1. Find the model plate and read the code. On the caution plate, in the engine bay on older models and on the driver’s side centre pillar on later ones, next to COLOR. Mazda codes are two or three characters. If it says NU, the car left the factory in Vintage Red.
  2. Check the V5C. For Vintage Red it should say RED or MAROON. Add the paint code to our free check and we’ll compare it with the DVLA record for you.
  3. Check the auction sheet. It should describe the car as red and usually prints the code. A sheet that says one colour with a code for another means the car was painted before it was sold in Japan. Our auction sheet translator flags that.
  4. Look for the old colour where a respray rarely reaches: the engine bay, door shuts, inside the boot lid and fuel flap, and under rubber seals.

Questions

What colour is Mazda paint code NU?

NU is Vintage Red (ヴィンテージレッド), a red paint.

What colour should the V5C say for a car in NU?

The DVLA records a basic colour, not the paint name, so a car still in its factory Vintage Red should be registered as RED or MAROON. Anything else suggests it has been painted a new colour, and the keeper should have told the DVLA.

Which models came in Vintage Red?

Japanese catalogue colour listings include it for the Mazda RX-7 FD (FD3S). Other Mazda models outside our model library used it too.
