Has a P85 car been resprayed?

  1. Find the model plate and read the code. On the caution plate in the engine bay, next to EXT (the exterior paint). Codes are a letter and two digits, such as W37. If it says P85, the car left the factory in Palmer Red.
  2. Check the V5C. For Palmer Red it should say RED or MAROON. Add the paint code to our free check and we’ll compare it with the DVLA record for you.
  3. Check the auction sheet. It should describe the car as red and usually prints the code. A sheet that says one colour with a code for another means the car was painted before it was sold in Japan. Our auction sheet translator flags that.
  4. Look for the old colour where a respray rarely reaches: the engine bay, door shuts, inside the boot lid and fuel flap, and under rubber seals.

Questions

What colour is Mitsubishi paint code P85?

P85 is Palmer Red (パルマーレッド), a red paint.

What colour should the V5C say for a car in P85?

The DVLA records a basic colour, not the paint name, so a car still in its factory Palmer Red should be registered as RED or MAROON. Anything else suggests it has been painted a new colour, and the keeper should have told the DVLA.

Which models came in Palmer Red?

We believe the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV to VI (CP9A) and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII to IX (CT9A) also offered it, but haven’t confirmed that yet. Other Mitsubishi models outside our model library used it too.
