Has a BT2 car been resprayed?

  1. Find the model plate and read the code. On the model plate (the “caution plate”) in the engine bay, usually on the bulkhead, next to COLOR. Some later models put a sticker on the driver’s door pillar instead. If it says BT2, the car left the factory in Champion Blue.
  2. Check the V5C. For Champion Blue it should say BLUE. Add the paint code to our free check and we’ll compare it with the DVLA record for you.
  3. Check the auction sheet. It should describe the car as blue and usually prints the code. A sheet that says one colour with a code for another means the car was painted before it was sold in Japan. Our auction sheet translator flags that.
  4. Look for the old colour where a respray rarely reaches: the engine bay, door shuts, inside the boot lid and fuel flap, and under rubber seals.

Questions

What colour is Nissan paint code BT2?

BT2 is Champion Blue (チャンピオンブルー), a blue paint.

What colour should the V5C say for a car in BT2?

The DVLA records a basic colour, not the paint name, so a car still in its factory Champion Blue should be registered as BLUE. Anything else suggests it has been painted a new colour, and the keeper should have told the DVLA.

Which models came in Champion Blue?

Japanese catalogue colour listings include it for the Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 (BCNR33). Other Nissan models outside our model library used it too.
