We believe these offered it too, but haven’t confirmed it yet:

Other Nissan models outside our model library used KR4 too.

Has a KR4 car been resprayed?

  1. Find the model plate and read the code. On the model plate (the “caution plate”) in the engine bay, usually on the bulkhead, next to COLOR. Some later models put a sticker on the driver’s door pillar instead. If it says KR4, the car left the factory in Sonic Silver.
  2. Check the V5C. For Sonic Silver it should say SILVER or GREY. Add the paint code to our free check and we’ll compare it with the DVLA record for you.
  3. Check the auction sheet. It should describe the car as silver and usually prints the code. A sheet that says one colour with a code for another means the car was painted before it was sold in Japan. Our auction sheet translator flags that.
  4. Look for the old colour where a respray rarely reaches: the engine bay, door shuts, inside the boot lid and fuel flap, and under rubber seals. Sonic Silver has a metallic finish, so look along each panel at an angle for a change in shade.

Questions

What colour is Nissan paint code KR4?

KR4 is Sonic Silver (ソニックシルバー), a metallic silver paint.

What colour should the V5C say for a car in KR4?

The DVLA records a basic colour, not the paint name, so a car still in its factory Sonic Silver should be registered as SILVER or GREY. Anything else suggests it has been painted a new colour, and the keeper should have told the DVLA.

Which models came in Sonic Silver?

Japanese catalogue colour listings include it for the Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 (BCNR33), Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 (BNR34), Nissan Silvia S15 (S15) and Nissan Stagea WC34 (WGNC34). We believe the Nissan Skyline R33 (ECR33) also offered it, but haven’t confirmed that yet. Other Nissan models outside our model library used it too.
