Models that came in Red Mica

Listed for these models in Japanese catalogue colour listings. Not every colour was offered for every year or trim.

Other Toyota models outside our model library used 3N1 too.

In Toyota’s own catalogue

Toyota’s own listings name the colour (レッドマイカ) but not the code, so they confirm the model offered it. These are the grades we checked:

Has a 3N1 car been resprayed?

  1. Find the model plate and read the code. On the manufacturer’s plate in the engine bay, usually on the bulkhead or a front strut top. It’s printed with the trim code as COLOR/TRIM (C/TR): in 040/FB20 the paint code is 040. If it says 3N1, the car left the factory in Red Mica.
  2. Check the V5C. For Red Mica it should say RED or MAROON. Add the paint code to our free check and we’ll compare it with the DVLA record for you.
  3. Check the auction sheet. It should describe the car as red and usually prints the code. A sheet that says one colour with a code for another means the car was painted before it was sold in Japan. Our auction sheet translator flags that.
  4. Look for the old colour where a respray rarely reaches: the engine bay, door shuts, inside the boot lid and fuel flap, and under rubber seals. Red Mica has a mica finish, so look along each panel at an angle for a change in shade.

Questions

What colour is Toyota paint code 3N1?

3N1 is Red Mica (レッドマイカ), a mica red paint.

What colour should the V5C say for a car in 3N1?

The DVLA records a basic colour, not the paint name, so a car still in its factory Red Mica should be registered as RED or MAROON. Anything else suggests it has been painted a new colour, and the keeper should have told the DVLA.

Which models came in Red Mica?

Japanese catalogue colour listings include it for the Toyota Soarer Z30 (JZZ30). Other Toyota models outside our model library used it too.
