Has a 4V6 car been resprayed?

  1. Find the model plate and read the code. On the manufacturer’s plate in the engine bay, usually on the bulkhead or a front strut top. It’s printed with the trim code as COLOR/TRIM (C/TR): in 040/FB20 the paint code is 040. If it says 4V6, the car left the factory in Beige.
  2. Check the V5C. For Beige it should say BEIGE, CREAM, GOLD or BROWN. Add the paint code to our free check and we’ll compare it with the DVLA record for you.
  3. Check the auction sheet. It should describe the car as beige and usually prints the code. A sheet that says one colour with a code for another means the car was painted before it was sold in Japan. Our auction sheet translator flags that.
  4. Look for the old colour where a respray rarely reaches: the engine bay, door shuts, inside the boot lid and fuel flap, and under rubber seals.

Questions

What colour is Toyota paint code 4V6?

4V6 is Beige (ベージュ), a beige paint.

What colour should the V5C say for a car in 4V6?

The DVLA records a basic colour, not the paint name, so a car still in its factory Beige should be registered as BEIGE, CREAM, GOLD or BROWN. Anything else suggests it has been painted a new colour, and the keeper should have told the DVLA.

Which models came in Beige?

Japanese catalogue colour listings include it for the Toyota Hiace H200 (KDH200). Other Toyota models outside our model library used it too.
